Gbenga Hashim: Osun Will Vote Accord in 2027 Presidential Race

 

Accord presidential candidate, Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has described the people of Osun State as the heroes of the recently conducted governorship election, praising their courage and determination to make their democratic choice prevail.

Hashim stated this during his appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, hosted by Seun Okinbaloye, over the weekend.

He said the resilience of the people of Osun, particularly their determination to exercise their democratic rights despite difficult circumstances, made the ultimate difference in the election.

Hashim noted that the reported killing of more than 40 people in the build up to the election, many of whom, had no protection, could have discouraged voters, but the people of Osun remained resolute and stood firmly with the Accord Party.

According to Hashim, the conduct of the people demonstrated that “Osun people have once again reaffirmed that they are not conquerable.”

He said the resilience of Osun voters was not new, recalling that the state had previously demonstrated its willingness to stand by its political choice despite pressure from powerful political interests.

Hashim cited the 2011 presidential election, when Osun was the only state to record a victory for Nuhu Ribadu of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), describing it as an example of the state's willingness to stand with its chosen political platform despite wider national and regional political pressures.

“This is what it means to be an Omoluabi,” Hashim said, describing the people of Osun as a people who value courage, integrity and the right to make their own political decisions.

The Accord presidential candidate expressed confidence that the same spirit would shape the 2027 elections, predicting that Osun voters would support the Accord Party not only in the presidential election but also in the National Assembly and State Assembly elections.

“I have no doubt that the people of Osun will stand with Accord in 2027. They have demonstrated repeatedly that they cannot be conquered or compelled to surrender their democratic choice. We are confident that Osun will vote for Accord at the presidential, National Assembly and State Assembly elections,” Hashim said.

Troops of Sector 1, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, neutralised a terrorist and recovered four motorcycles and other items during a dawn offensive operation in Dan Musa Local Government Area of Katsina State on 4 September 2026.

Acting on credible intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists in the general area of Yantumaki Forest, troops conducted a coordinated offensive against the terrorists. Troops engaged the terrorists with maximum firepower, forcing them to flee into the surrounding bushes.

During exploitation of the area, troops confirmed the neutralisation of one terrorist and recovered four motorcycles, one mobile phone and five empty intravenous drip containers, suspected to have been used in the treatment of wounded terrorists.

The successful operation further demonstrates the unwavering commitment of troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to sustain pressure on terrorist networks, degrade their operational capabilities and deny them freedom of action across the Joint Operations Area. THE RETURN OF AGALI SAGAMU: He Survived 20 Years in Prison, Then Returned to the Cult War

 

In the shadowy streets of Sagamu, where cult rivalries could turn deadly in an instant, one name was enough to make people uneasy: Adewale Aderibigbe, better known as Agali Sagamu.

By 2008, Agali had risen to become the second-in-command of the Supreme Eiye Confraternity in Sagamu. He was feared as one of the group’s most ruthless enforcers a man whose reputation was built on violence and deadly confrontations with rival groups.

But away from the streets, Agali had another side.

He had a girlfriend, Ewatomi, and when she gave birth to their child, Agali suddenly found himself facing something he wasn't prepared for: fatherhood.

He wanted to give his newborn a proper cultural naming ceremony, but there was one major problem he had no money.

Desperate to raise the funds, Agali made a decision that would change the course of his life.

He gathered a crew of trusted Eiye members and turned to armed robbery.

The operation was quick. They escaped with cash and two expensive BlackBerry phones, apparently believing they had gotten away with it.

But by the next morning, their celebration was over.

The stolen BlackBerry phones became the evidence that led the police straight to them.

After interrogation, Agali and his accomplices were arrested, prosecuted and eventually handed lengthy prison sentences roughly 20 years behind bars.

But while Agali was locked away, Sagamu changed.

His absence created a vacuum within the local Eiye faction, and their rivals, Blxck Axe, seized the opportunity.

A violent campaign followed.

Many of Agali's former comrades were killed, while others reportedly fled the country. By the time Agali was released years later, the brotherhood he once knew had been shattered.

Then came 2023.

After spending years in prison, Agali was reportedly granted a pardon by the Ogun State Government for good behaviour and walked back into freedom.

But freedom did not bring peace.

Instead, Agali returned to a Sagamu he barely recognized and the news of what had happened to his old comrades reignited his anger.

Rather than walk away from the life that had nearly destroyed him, Agali reportedly went straight back into the underworld.

The former Eiye enforcer resumed his role as a hitman and began carrying out retaliatory attacks against suspected Blxck Axe members across Abeokuta.

The violence became so alarming that a prominent local politician, who had reportedly used Agali for discreet enforcement jobs, warned him that security agencies were closing in.

According to the account, the politician offered Agali a way out: Canada.

Agali accepted.

He handed over his passport so arrangements for his visa and escape could begin.

For the first time, it appeared that he might actually leave the violence behind.

But Agali would never make it to Canada.

While waiting for his ticket, a Blxck Axe hit squad reportedly located him.

Then came the ambush.

Gunmen opened fire, hitting Agali repeatedly in the back and legs.

The attackers apparently believed they had finally eliminated their target.

But they were wrong.

Agali survived.

And when word spread that the feared Eiye enforcer had been attacked, retaliation reportedly came swiftly.

Eiye members launched a counterattack that left at least eight suspected Blxck Axe members dead, according to the account.

Meanwhile, Agali disappeared.

Badly wounded, he went into hiding, nursing his injuries while security operatives searched for him.

Eventually, they found him.

Agali was reportedly tracked down to his hideout and arrested while he was asleep. He reportedly died shortly after.

The man who had survived prison, rival attacks, and an assassination attempt had finally run out of places to hide.

And just one day later, his long and violent saga came to a tragic end.

From a feared cult enforcer, to a convicted armed robber, to a pardoned prisoner who returned to the same deadly world he had escaped Agali Sagamu's story became a grim reminder of how difficult it can be to escape a life built around violence.

Ogidan: He Hunted Cultists Across Ilorin… Until They Came for Him

 

In the early 2000s, Kwara State’s higher institutions were caught in the grip of a terrifying underground war.

From the University of Ilorin to Kwara Polytechnic, rival cult groups operated with growing confidence, turning campuses and surrounding communities into danger zones. Students lived in fear. Parents were worried. And authorities were desperate for someone willing to confront the problem head-on.

Then came an unlikely figure.

His name was Gbenga Joseph, but on the streets, he was simply known as Ogidan.

A police corporal who appeared ordinary at first glance, Ogidan was reportedly handpicked to lead a special anti-cultism squad sanctioned by the state government. But once the operation began, his reputation quickly became anything but ordinary.

He led surprise raids on off-campus hostels, bars, nightspots and social gatherings suspected of harbouring cult members. His squad made arrests, disrupted meetings and hunted suspected operatives across Ilorin.

Before long, Ogidan had become a name that struck fear into the underworld.

And with fear came legend.

Whispers began spreading that the police corporal possessed powerful spiritual protection—that ordinary bullets could not easily bring him down. Whether those stories were true or simply the mythology that surrounded a feared law-enforcement officer, they only made his reputation bigger.

But Ogidan’s methods were also surrounded by controversy.

Critics accused his squad of conducting indiscriminate raids that swept up innocent students alongside suspected cult members. There were also unconfirmed allegations linking members of the operation to extrajudicial killings.

Then came an even more dangerous accusation.

Some members of the Black Axe confraternity reportedly claimed that Ogidan was deliberately targeting their organization while allegedly ignoring rival groups such as Eiye.

But regardless of the accusations, Ogidan did not appear ready to retreat.

He kept going.

Until June 2005.

That month, the hunter became the hunted.

Ogidan was visiting his girlfriend along Coca-Cola Road, off Unity Road in Ilorin, when the situation suddenly turned deadly.

According to accounts surrounding his death, the normally active area had become unusually quiet. Then, without warning, a coordinated group of suspected cultists descended on him.

There was no squad around him.

No immediate backup.

No chance to escape.

The man who had spent years chasing cult operatives was suddenly surrounded by the very people he had made his enemies.

Ogidan was killed in the ambush.

His death sent shockwaves through Ilorin and immediately gave birth to another wave of rumours. Some claimed that the spiritual protection people believed had kept him alive during his dangerous operations had somehow failed—or been neutralized.

But beneath the legends and rumours was a much darker reality.

A police corporal had entered a violent underground war believing he could dismantle it from the inside.

And eventually, the war came for him.

The story of Ogidan remains a haunting chapter in the history of cultism in Nigeria—a reminder of just how deeply the menace had spread beyond university campuses and into the wider society.

Because when violence becomes a culture, even the person sent to stop it can become a target.

Ogidan went after the cult underworld. In the end, the underworld came looking for him.
