As the crisis that engulfed Ekiti State since he was sworn
in in October 2014, moves gradually towards its climax, the embattled governor
of the Fountain of Knowledge, Ayodele Fayose has been doing everything both
imaginable and otherwise to escape the wrath of outgoing APC lawmakers, in
whose bad books he fell into. We heard he even went to the extent of prevent
entry into the state blocking all entry points with articulated vehicles.
The latest move has seen him surfacing, albeit
surreptitiously, at a popular Lagos church, Christ Livingspring Apostolic Ministries,
better known as CLAM located in the Omole Area of Ojodu in Lagos. His presence
at the Sunday service early May took worshippers by surprise and the church did
everything possible shield him from public glare, in the process ordering that
video coverage and other multimedia activities avoid focus on his presence
inside the crowded church that day.
What must have dragged Mr Fayose to the church was not
unconnected with the impeachment moves of the 19 APC lawmakers who had served him
a notice of impeachment earlier in April following the victory of the
opposition All Progressives Congress at the centre during the last presidential
elections held on March 28, 2015. The lawmakers had scampered into safety
outside the state popularly touted as the fountain of knowledge but were emboldened
to return by the victory of the APC in the presidential election. In their
absence, seven PDP legislators had been performing legislative duties which
legal luminaries considered illegal.
Beth News learnt from reliable sources that prophesy had
come from the church concerning the life and political career of the governor
who was ousted in his first tenure in 2006 by a PDP-led majority in the Ekiti
State House of Assembly. When the prophetic message was delivered to the
governor, we learnt he hurriedly arranged some amount of money believed to run
into millions of naira to be delivered to the church pastorate for spiritual
intervention.
To the embattled governor’s chagrin, both the money and the
messenger were literally parceled back to him, an indication that what lay
ahead was more than money. His presence was required in the church so he chose
that Sunday morning to attend the service.
Since his election as Ekiti State
governor where he defeated the sitting governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi in June
2014, Governor Ayodele Peter Fayose and the lawmakers elected on the platform
of the All Progressives Congress, APC, have been locked in a battle of wits.
Soon after the election, the Ekiti state chapter of the APC cried foul and
sought legal redress. It was during one of the court proceedings that
pandemonium broke out in the Ekiti State High Court premises. The sanctity of
the judicial arm of government was violated as political thugs invaded the
court premises, beating up a high court judge and tearing his suit.
This prompted the Chief Judge,
Justice A.S. Daramola to order immediate closure of all courts in Ekiti State
until adequate security had been put in place.
But in his reaction to the
fracas, the governor said he was in the court premises as a respondent in a
petition filed before the election petition tribunal that commenced. Perhaps
not comfortable with an APC dominated assembly, Mr Fayose made spirited efforts
to install lawmakers loyal to his course.
A group of pro-Fayose lawmakers
in the state House of Assembly purportedly removed Mr. Omirin as the speaker of the House and elevated the
speaker pro tempore, Dele Olugbemi, to occupy the seat.
Last week the governor called on his
supporters to take to the streets of Ado-Ekiti, the state capital on Tuesday,
to prevent All Progressives Congress’ lawmakers from impeaching him.
In a live television broadcast Monday evening
last week, Mr. Fayose pleaded with the Ekiti people not to allow his government
to be truncated by the 19 APC lawmakers.
