BREAKING! SKETCH NEWS PAPER REBIRTH

Image may contain: text

ON MARCH 31, 1964, the Western Regional Government under Late Chief Ladoke Akintola
 established the Sketch Newspapers. Well, the idea had taken root since late 1963
  but the first edition of the paper rolled out on the 31/3/1964.
The paper suffered many ups and downs owing to the circumstance of its birth.
However ,
the publication increased in leaps and bounds. The corporate office was located at Dugbe
 in the vicinity of Cocoa House,
in fact where you have the Heritage Malls today that houses ShopRite, Mr Price et cetera .
It had in its stable the:
* Daily Sketch
* Sunday Sketch
* Evening Sketch (hope I'm correct) and,
* Gboungboun (the Yoruba version)
However, the Sketch publications went out of circulation around 2002/2003
 when the Odua Investment states that owned it could not come to a compromise
on the funding of the Sketch Press Ltd.
Thus, this proud heritage of the Yorubas was left to go into forced sabbatical.
However, like all good ideas that fail to die, Sketch has bounced back.
And it is all the brainchild of our oga, Elder Bode Oyewole,
former Chairman of Shooting Stars Sports Club who himself is an acclaimed journalist.
Elder Oyewole's Spark Communications Ltd, is in charge of the Sketch rebirth.
I pray, that for the sake of our children and their generations,
this proud bequest of our heroes past shall go back to its old glory!
