The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) got a thumbs up on Thursday as the Akoko Unit of the Corps in Ondo state has not only recovered cash from an accident scene but also had it returned to the owners. The sum of N500,000 was returned to the owners on Thursday.
According to a reliable source, the accident occurred recently at the Oke-Maria axis of Oka-Akoko, which led to the deaths of travelers and had some vehicles burnt. The cash was presented to the survivors of the accident and the families of the deceased. The new Sector Commander of the Ondo state FRSC, Commander Rotimi Adeleye, who was represented by the Ikare Unit Commander, Jimoh Basiru, recalled that some market women heading to Ibadan from the north were involved in the accident.
Noting that road safety is a collective responsibility of the drivers and the passengers, it is the duty of the passengers to control the driver when he over speeds, since all occupants of the vehicle will be affected. The FRSC will according to him not condone situation where money and belongings of accident victims are tampered with by anybody. One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Funmi Okunola hailed the corps and urged others to emulate the gesture, expressing surprise that in spite of the harsh economy, the FRSC officials can still be that hones
