Few days ago, a video was circulated on the social media and it went viral. From outlook of the viral video, it revealed the looks and the dancing steps of a popular Nigerian gospel musician, Lady Evangelist Tope Alabi in her white Versace top and pants on blue sneakers. She was apparently dancing to gospel music.
Some of her social media fans condemned her dressing style and the way she was dancing, saying that she might have been drunk or maybe she has compromised her love for gospel music while some were of the opinion that she might have embraced the world completely. Obviously, her fans perceptions were total negative.
Nevertheless, when Trust Beth News contacted Alabi's family, one of them had this to say in a bid to clear the air: "People are entitled to their opinions as the video was shot was at my late father's funeral wake keep held on the Wednesday, 12th of February 2020. And it was stated during the official preparation and printed on the invitation cards sent out, that the wake keep dress code would be green head tie or cap on white attire for the praise night which started 5:30pm and ended 11:pm at no 11, Baba Ode Street, Afijalo, Mafoluku Oshodi Shogunle Bus-stop, Lagos.
"She purposely wore that cloth based on the dress code. More so, she needed to look smart in order to cater for all her fans, friends, family and well-wisher. Concerning her dancing steps for that day, I guess it's biblical, because King David danced before God to forget his sorrows and not even minding other kings around him. That was her case that night; she needed to dance to appreciate her creator for the success of her father's final burial.”
“We need to show our appreciation even in anticipation of what God is yet to do in our life and entire family, and that was her own way of doing that."
Thereafter, and in a short while; Tope Alabi went into the room to change to another dress which was gown to minister and to appreciate God more.
According to her, "I needed that dance, it was at my father's burial. I just needed to dance and worship God. As a spiritual person, you know you need that dance. It's not easy to bury one's father."
