I have unsuccessfully tried to hide waves of thoughts sweeping through my heart. While I sympathise with the family of the late first (ever and only)Nigeria's female combat pilot, I believe like many reasonable Nigerians, that there is much to her death, than what meets the eyes or ears.
A profession as noble as the Airforce, shouldn't be caught in the webs of such controversies and contradictions we have seen lately.
As one would expect,it is not unusual for the military to wear that toga of pride, arrogance and supremacy. We understand that, when we have occurrences as this to deal with, the easiest of escape routes for the military, is always "no comments" route.
However, it disheartening to continually get disjointed releases from the Nigeria Airforce about the cloudy circumstances around Arotile's sudden death.
Let me point out here that, anyone could die at any given time, and even as a result of any circumstance, but when there are critical questions raised by 'stakeholders,' it behoves on concerned authorities, to act accordingly.
Agreed, "she was waved or she waved down a class mate, who reversed his car,to greet her..."
Now,many groups have asked different questions. Then, suddenly the public got the identity of the killer.
Many of us drive cars, and so would want to ask:
* Could it be that, the driver's eyes were off the target (the person he was reversing, to meet)?
*A lady who has gone through several national and international military drills and trainings;suddenly became incapacitated that, she couldn't even run for a reversing car?
*Have they forgotten to tell us that, the car breaks failed?
*Did the accident occurred while the whole of Kaduna Airforce base was on a curfew sort of? No one was around the scene,to alert the driver or the late Arotile?
As 'fragile' and important that Airforce base is to the nation's or Kaduna's security, should we be Chickened into accepting that, there were no CCTV cameras? If there were, then let's have a detailed and unedited clip of the accident.
This is Nigeria, we are used to having critical issues swept under the carpets. If this purported investigation goes same way,we may not be too surprised.
May God heal Arotile's family of this scar, and may her soul rests!
God bless Nigeria!
