Popular Yoruba Nollywood Actor, Yomi Fabiyi Writes Governor Sanwo-Olu An Open Letter

Dear Governor Sanwoolu,

This is an appeal to you Governor Babajide Sanwoolu @jidesanwoolu on the peaceful protesters arrested on the 13th February, 2021 at Lekki Toll Gate for disobeying COVID-19 and no protest order.

Your Excellency, kindly let the case against these protesters be withdrawn. Please speak to the President, Governors forum and the National Assembly, let Nigeria have STATE POLICE, NATIONAL EMERGENCY NUMBER, Improved Police Welfare among other things.

The video showing the protesters looking frail and dehumanized by those fellow citizens who should know better is enough to start another protest. That is a kind of protest I will join anyday, anytime. When people are OPPRESSED, they don't need formal notice before they react or express themselves.

It is clear some Police officers are bitter and derive pleasure in this act of torture and dehumanization. This is causing bad blood between the public and these public officers. It is affecting the social-economic prosperity of the state and country too.

There is bitterness in people's heart. Sir, I have nothing to gain if your government fails, so are many. As citizens we are willing to help. But to help is to get meaningful development and government sympathy and key consideration.

There is massive insecurity in the land and it is because policing in a vast and populated country like Nigeria ought to be cut down to state and local, bearing in mind each state creates it's own laws and need adequate implementation. What is the point as a Governor and Chief Security Officer of population of over Thirty Million and you outsource the security of your state and people you swore to protect.

Once again, please kindly consider this request. Seeing them go on trial inspite of that disgusting treatment is like a double punishment and it is worth risking everything for, as injustice to one is injustice to all. We love the Police, END SARS simply means treat Nigeria well and Nigeria treat Police well. All these bitterness and ill-treatment MUST STOP.

Thank you for your humility and understanding in this regards.
