Mothers are called Mummies because they're lovely. Mothers are called Women because they're sweet.
Mothers are to be idolized, cared for, appreciated, and loved, for out of a good Land comes a good tree."
Of all the wonders that mothers have created in our universe, giving birth and raising babies from infancy to adulthood is the greatest feat worthy of the entire worlds accolade on this Joyous Mothers Day.
Whenever a mother gives birth to a baby, it is the fulfilment of a long-awaited blessing from God and it is only then, that the mothers joy can be complete.
From 0-6months of babys life, mothers milk is best advised, as it contains anti-bodies which helps baby fight-off infection, including fungi and bacteria, as well as, well breast-fed babies experience less diarrhea, constipation, gastro-esophageal disorders and reflux.
Exclusive breastfeeding for more than the first six months of a babys life ensures prime brain development, strong bone formation, and strong immune system, as a result of the calcium-rich mothers milk, which also contains vitamins, protein, fat, and most importantly, everything that baby needs to grow.
In the infancy stage (0-12 months of a childs life), nutrient requirements are proportionally higher than at any other time in the life cycle. Every child requires a certain amount of macro and micronutrients for optimal health. The macronutrients are those needed in large quantities while micronutrients are those required in very small quantities.
Macronutrients provide the energy needs of the child. These are in form of carbohydrates, proteins and lipids. Infants are capable of regulating their intake of food to consume the right amount of kilocalories they need. Micronutrients on the other hand are in form of vitamins and minerals which should be adequately provided in the childs diet. Though required in very small quantities, their absence in daily meals may have major effects on the childs well-being.
Fatty acids are the major constituent of many lipids. Breast milk naturally contains major fatty acids like Arachidonic acid (ARA) and Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), important for brain and retina development, with levels varying according to the mothers diet. However this important fatty acid is not available in many infant formulas.
For all children, the World Health Organization and UNICEF recommend:
Early initiation of breastfeeding within one hour of birth.
Exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life; and
Introduction of nutritionally-adequate and safe complementary (solid) foods at six months together with continued breastfeeding up to two years of age or beyond.
To complement the growth of these young miracles, Friesland Campina WAMCO has introduced
Peak 456 DHA Advantage for growing kids. Best suited to children within the 4-6 year age bracket, the milk is scientifically proven to aid a childs brain development and being fortified with DHA (Doco sahexaenoic acid) and all necessary vitamins and minerals appropriate to a childs nutrition, it is indeed the milk for smart, strong children!
