All roads lead to Eko Hotel & Suites, Lagos for Great Lagosians Hall of Fame banguet on Thursday, May 26th, 2022. This was announced by Mr Olawale Enitan Seriki, a popular Lagos veteran journalist cum hotelier, while speaking with media men in Lagos.
Expected at the event are the Elegushi of Ikateland, His Royal Majesty, Oba Saheed Elegushi, Chairman of Bash Oil Aare Basir Fakorede, Bishop Tom Samson, Femi Kuti, Ayo Animashaun other Dignitaries.
Mr Seriki who is the founding president of Great Lagosians Hall of Fame said the aim of the hall of fame is to celebrate his land of birth Lagos, which is a veritable city of aquatic splendour and a land of opportunities filled with milk and honey.
According to him, Great Lagosians Hall of Fame is a child of necessity borne out of the need to reshape a whole city moreso as it is the melting pot of some sort undergoing the worst of decadence.
The Great Lagosians Hall of Fame has singled out people domiciled in the city Lagos, who by dint of hard work had excelled in their own chosen careers/fields of human endeavour.
“It is basically to showcase their adorable profiles, veritable evidences of proven capacity and tenacity of purpose to the generality of the people as role models,” he said.
Seriki said those targeted were mostly the ones who quietly crept into Lagos unnoticed but who are catapulted onto reference by outlandish success propelled by hard and smart work “because as a group we don't believe in epitaphs as we intend to celebrate them while they're alive.”
Introduction into the Great Lagosians Hall of Fame is carried out by a resource team of academicians, journalists, historians, entertainment gurus and public relations practitioners.
“From the onset, the parameters are simply merit-based and not monetary. It is on this mindset we set out in 2021 on a journey of identifying and showcasing the Icons of Lagos City.”
Great Lagosians Hall of Fame induction starts with uploading of profiles on its website www.greatlagosians.com This is followed up by the presentation of the 'plaques of fame' to the individual inductee at their reputable home while the third and final stage is the Inductees Banquet where inductees and their families and friends are treated to merriment in banquet style. And the high point of the event basically on Walk of Fame.
After each inductee might have completed this Walk of Fame, he or she will join fellow inductees to take a group photograph that will signify the induction as completed, thereafter they will rejoin friends and well-wishers on their respective banquet tables.
In respect of this, the founding president, Olawale Enitan Seriki has set aside a compendium of city builders and achievers tagged "Icons of Lagos". The book said to be published by the Great Lagosians Hall Of Fame will be launched at the inductees banquet.
Lastly, a complex has been carefully designed for the Great Lagosians Hall of Fame and it will a marble wall where the names of inducted Lagosians are engraved by year and class of induction.
“We shall be hosting more than twelve dignitaries who happen to make our Hall Of Fame as we look forward to seeing everyone on Thursday, May 26th at the Orchid-Labtana Hall, Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island,” he concluded.
