When I saw celebrity actress Funke Akindele's video on an esteemed Celestial Church of Christ WhatsApp Group that I belong to, which membership includes old and new CCC trustees and MPICs as well as eminent scions of the SBJ Oshoffa Clan, I silently prayed that social media pundits would be kind to her.
I have read some scathing remarks about her decision to openly declare her membership of the CCC on a video that was recorded in a popular CCC parish in Lagos, which she attended on a Sunday, recently.
I was quite happy to also read some very positive remarks about her openness from respected CCC elders like me.
I have known the Akindeles for almost 30 years, especially her elder sister Ayo also called Olubunmi, who is my protegé.
I have been at the forefront of saying, texting, chatting, posting, preaching and teaching everything good about CCC and exemplary Celestians for almost 40 years now, and I feel obliged to commend Funke Akindele aka JENIFA for coming out boldly to call herself a Celestian. She is first and foremost a very successful professional and international celebrity; an inspiration to many in that regard.
Funke Akindele has been a Celestian for over 36 years. Her youngest sibling, Mariah Abimbola Akindele aka 'Mama' was born and christened in the CCC, and she remains extremely passionate about her faith.
The Akindeles joined the CCC at Agiliti Parish 1 under Prophet Adekoya and spent a lot of time in church. At different times, they all attended CCC Ibukunolu Parish, Ketu-Alapere under Shepherd Oyelakin, CCC Ojodu Parish on Aina Street and CCC Olusosun Parish, Ojota as their family home addresses changed.
Guess what folks? There was a time Funke was seriously ill in boarding school. She fainted and was rushed to Olusosun Parish where she was miraculously healed by God [Olu Ijo Mimo].
Funke's late dad and her mom who is very much alive and who rose to the rank of SSES, were Celestians for many years. Her father later joined the Methodist Church but gave his blessings for the rest of his family to worship in CCC.
Ayo once told me, "All my siblings, male and female, including Funke, all have prophetic gifts and they wear 4-corner sutanas. I am the only one who wears round neck sutana.
"In fact, it was Funke that first prophesied to me many years ago, the details of how my first child would come, and it was exactly so."
It is okay for social media pundits, including various CCC bloggers, to assume that Funke is looking for CCC votes for her party as the PDP flag bearer for the post of Deputy Governor, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
But there is something more important than that, which is, whichever CCC blogger or elder wishes to comment on Funke Akindele's openness about her CCC membership, please treat her kindly and with love, whether or not you would vote for her party or another party in 2023.
She is now first and foremost a Celestian and is proud to be so addressed. Let's make CCC her strong tower; her place of love and refuge. Let us show love to one of our own and refrain from being judgemental. This is the Papa SBJ Oshoffa legacy. Alleluia!
