FAYOSE: EKITI RIGGING TAPE IS FAKE

Before the June 4th 2015 governorship election in Ekiti State, there had been acrimonious arguments on both sides of the divide as to the unsuitability or otherwise of the frontline candidates, the incumbent Governor, Kayode Fyemi of the APC, and the former Governor of the state, Ayo Fayose of the PDP. According to his opponent, Dr. Fayemi’s government was elitist and, therefore, not for the common man. He was accused of alienating virtually every sector of the state, including the civil service, teachers and even local government administration. To the Ekiti people, his style of governance was strange, while his commissioners were mostly Lagosians or people from Europe, who were practically unknown to the grass roots. It was therefore not surprising when he was soundly defeated at the polls.
Even his party’s heavy campaign and propaganda could not mitigate the heaviness of Fayemi’s loss to Fayose, who is fondly called Oshokomole by his fanatical supporters. Fayose was mistakenly underrated, despite his earlier boast that Fayemi would regret ever contesting against him.
Though Fayose was unjustly impeached in a scheme orchestrated by the all-knowing Obasanjo in 2006, he coasted home to an easy victory over the oratory of Fayemi. And Fayemi hurriedly, yet gracefully, conceded defeat by congratulating Fayose.
Trust Fayemi’s party, APC, not to accept defeat, they cried out alleging that the Ekiti Governorship Election was rigged. They claimed that the former minister of state for defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, used the military to intimidate and harass people. At a stage, they even came up with and circulated a recorded tape where the voices of some purported PDP stalwarts and a faceless army captain were allegedly planning to rig the polls in favour of Fayose.
As these was going on, the Ekiti people who massively voted Ayo Fayose were making it very loud and clear that they had really made their choice. They affirmed that no campaign of calumny could sway them from their choice. A very reliable source told Beth News that the purported rigging tape was artificially created to cause chaos and anarchy in Ekiti State,
Over to Plan B: 19 APC lawmakers impeachment bid, this is ofcause the plan B after the failed rigging  tape the lawmakers waged a serious battle to impeach Fayose in a bid to gain through the back door what they had lost through the ballot. But the Ekiti people stood resolutely against such injustice. Even the Obas warned the lawmakers to tread softly lest they abort the wish of the Ekiti people.
Isn’t democracy wonderful when it is allowed to work?
However, Fayose should not allow his sparkling victory intoxicate him. He needs to settle down to brass tacks and deliver on his campaign promise of delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Ekiti State.
