A devastating story of corporate neglect and institutional silence has come to light regarding Mr. Olaoluwa Adetona, an engineer for Nigerian telecommunications giant Globacom. Sent on an official field assignment on May 6th 2025, alongside two colleagues, the team was ambushed by kidnappers While his two coworkers managed to escape, Mr. Adetona was taken into captivity
Despite the payment of a N1,000,000 ransom, the kidnappers failed to release him. To protect its corporate image, Globacom allegedly instructed Mr. Adetona’s wife to keep quiet, promising to resolve the kidnapping privately behind closed doors which never come to fulfillment
Seeking help, Mrs. Adetona approached Oriyomi Hamzat, CEO of Agidigbo FM, to expose the company’s inaction. However, after meeting privately with Globacom representatives without the wife present, Hamzat reportedly advised her to "name her price" and ask for financial compensation instead of her husband's return
Refusing money and pleading only for her husband's safe return, she was assured the matter would be handled. Yet, for seven months, calls to the contact number provided went ignored
Despite a formal petition submitted by the law firm Akin Orimolade & Co. to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) on May 6, 2026, no progress has been made
Desperate for answers, Mrs. Adetona recently reached out to social media activist VNV, who delivered a heartbreaking assessment: after so many months in captivity with no corporate intervention, it is increasingly unlikely Mr. Adetona is still alive.
Mrs. Adetona continues to demand justice, accountability, and the truth about her husband's fate from Globacom and the authorities.
